Let’s discuss pillar candles. What exactly are they? Why are they so popular?

A pillar candle comes in various sizes and shapes and is made of a number of different waxes such as beeswax, soy, or paraffin. They can be chunky, slim, tall, square or round, there are even some that are star shaped. They can be scented with natural fragrances and essential oils which are fantastic for a relaxing aromatherapy session. They can also be unscented. As for colours they can be naturally coloured or dyed.

So what are their uses? Pillar candles are especially suitable for weddings, religious celebrations (especially Christmas and Easter) and now are increasingly becoming popular for enhancing home decor. When placed as a centrepiece on a dining table for Christmas dinner or a wedding breakfast with holly and ribbons completing the effect, it takes little imagination to see and feel the warm illuminating glow that the pillar candle gives when lit.

Why not place a candle garden on your coffee table. Place three or five different sized pillar candles on a heat proofed plate and arrange small decorative stones, flowers or trinkets around the bases of the candles. (This can quickly become a talking point when entertaining). These arrangements are especially striking and add a warm calming ambiance to your room. The combinations of pillar candles and decoration are endless. Pillar candle gardens can also be a focus point in your bathroom while you luxuriate in your bath. Candle gardens are very popular at the moment and it is very easy to understand why. Try one in your home you will love it.

Have you a fireplace that you do not use in the summer? Well here is a suggestion! Place a selection of pillar candles of various sizes, shapes, and colours to suit your decor in your fireplace when dusk is approaching. Can you imagine how wonderful your room will look and feel with the subtle warm glow of candlelight?

This arrangement can be extended into your garden. Place groups of pillar candles around your patio, light them and enjoy the beauty of a summer night. But please remember, if you have a candle centrepiece when dining always have unscented candles so that only the aroma of your lovingly prepared meal adds to the ambiance of the dinner party.

I hope this article has sparked an interest in pillar candles. Of course there are many other types of candles such taper, votive, and tea- lights but I think that a pillar candle is the ruler of the candle kingdom and is the most majestic of all.
